Mr. John Summers Passes Away.


The New Orleans Band Community Mourns the loss of one of our band directors. Mr. John Summers,

Mr. Summers, was an Alumnus of the JFK and Southern University Band's. and an educator of music and band director, he was known for reviving many band programs. Mr, Summers was most notable for directing the Joseph S. Clark Marching Bulldogs" from 1998 o Hurricane Katrina. A band the affectionately nicknamed "The Pied Pipers of Marching Band".

During the spring 2007 Mr, Summers returned as the director of Edna Karr High School band, refining this band, like many others in this time, brought a sense of stability in a time of uncertainty for the school bands culture. In 2010, Mr Summers, spearheaded the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office's "Band of Excellence". where students the opportunity to participate in in college events, travel abroad to experience band beyond city limits.

On behalf of The New Orleans band community; we, The New Orleans Legacy Association of Bands, sends our condolences to friends, family and all affected by his departure from this earth.
